Go to Vancouver Island and travel north. Halfway up turn east and arrive at Telegraph Cove, B.C. Park the rig, unpack, reload and launch from the marina. Travel across Johnstone Strait and enter the archipelago of Broughton Islands. Jeff and I took advantage of using his inflatable to taxi us into Echo Bay. We arranged to leave his Zodiac at a floating community and launch our kayaks from there for a week long paddle. Needless to say, the Canadian Coast Guard kept an eye on us as we crossed the strait. We had two kayaks lashed on the tubes of the inflatable and squeezed in between with our gear. All we could imagine was... being the visual aqua equivalent of the Beverly Hillbillies. We were stacked high with gear and motoring out to sea. Weather was great and we saved several days of paddling by using his Zodiac to insert us into the pocket. The area offers abundant coves of discovery, is quiet, incredibly rich with wildlife and is an orca playground. With resident and transient populations, there is good reason why The Discovery Channel comes here to film.
