August 2000. Aialik Bay. Bliss cubed! Water taxied in and out by Mike Miller of Miller's Landing, Seward, Alaska. Hands down the most amazing paddle to date. Attempted same trip 10 years earlier and was stormed out. Went to Homer and paddled Kachemak Bay instead and saw wildlife airlifted to recovery centers from the Exxon Valdez oil spill. 10 years later we came back with revenge and nailed spectacular weather for our entire trip. Everything was off the hook. Hiking was incredible. From wildlife, weather, remoteness to scale. It was just us and nature in full glory. Yogi everywhere. I'll never forget my face to face encounter with a large sow bushwhacking through a trail. We both were surprised, thinking what the #%$?! We had one very long night with a visitor circling our tent who eventually sauntered off into the evening. The only human activity we saw was an occasional tourist aircraft doing glacial flyovers. We often wondered, what do they see from their view? We joked, probably more fur around us than we want to know about. Jeff and I left with need to come back and visit neighboring fjords. I say we have unfinished business here. I see another trip back anytime now. I think I want to keep this one a secret! Ssshhhhh! So good it deserves a big header! Tip... Check out Northwestern Fjord.
