August, 2019. This summer Jeff and I used a mechanical means to ply summer waters instead of using our paddles. He recently bought a boat and Sam recently bought a truck. Me... I got to enjoy the benefits of both. Thank you Sammy and thank you Capt! We settled on heading to Lake Chelan and access their northern wilderness water camps by boat. The sites are plentiful and accessible. One only needs a federal dock permit to access these sites. Going midweek, we had our own space every night for a week. We've dreamed of ideas how to bring instruments on paddle trips. But this trip offered us opportunity to toss em into the boat. Voila! Magical moments sitting inside what felt like a snow globe while playing music, looking up into a clear sky filled with stars and planets. The Milky Way waved at us. Lots of laughs and classic moments including forgetting to stake the tent down finding it almost blown off a bluff and into the lake. That could only be topped while in the boat fishing and noticing it float by... yow! Fortunately we avoided that. We had great weather, no smoke from forest fires and the crazy-ness of motoring from one campsite to the next without paddling. Within 40 minutes or less, we were docked up to another site. The most physical part of the trip, breaking camp shuttling gear and making a new camp. It seems this may have been the start of an "old man adventure" series. As much as we complain about motors while paddling, we found solace and opportunity with what it can offer. Many thanks Sam for your awesome truck and the fun it brought us. YABA DO!
