July 2009. Thinking it would be a sweet backpack in MRNP, little were we prepared for the adventures of heat, bugs and ways to seek shade above tree line. Turned out to be record breaking in all departments. Seattle recorded a temp of 103 degrees. That left Jeff and I with temperatures unprecedented on Mount Rainier. Both day and nightime temps soared like the views. Bugs were heavy and eager for fresh meat. The trip was spectacular and I grew a deep appreciation for this part of the park. I'm eager to return and visit this magical area in the winter. I think it should be renamed, "Vistarama".
